Biography

Born in Birmingham 1974, Lucy Woollett aka Lady Lucy lives and works in London. Her innovative projects, which are often collaborations are characterised by a Do It Your self accessibility. Lady Lucy’s inspirations, tools and materials include: Feminism, pop music, internet, radio, fanzines, archives, portraiture, characters, drawing, watercolour, performance and interviewing. The artist is constantly in the process of producing an extraordinary range of drawn and painted artworks taken from real life and from the drawn page. From 2000 – 2008 she produced Being Lady Lucy, thousands of drawings of her friends, family and the people she came across in her sketchbooks. In 2006 She was nominated and included in Drawing Links at The Drawing Room, London, also touring to International 3, Manchester and Outpost Gallery, Norwich. In early 2007 a large collection of the artists drawing work was show in her first major solo show Unit 2 Gallery, London Metropolitan University. Her most recent projects are Ladies, All The Ladies (2008) a video documenting female DJs and MCs with the same moniker as the artist supported by Picture This Moving Image and Drawing Exchanges 2009 with Kayle Brandon a city wide participatory Drawing festival and exhibition at Spike Island, Bristol. Lady Lucy completed her MA Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art and Design in 2008.
